Welcome to Mrs. Brasher's Class!!!

Mrs. Brasher's Corner

I am so excited to be your teacher this year. This is my 9th year teaching at NDLE! We will be learning SO much this year. I live in Shreveport with my amazing husband, Adam and our two little dudes, Seth (4) and Charlie (2). We love to go to Sci-Port, the movies, and the SPLASH PAD! I can't wait to get to know more about each and every one of you as the year goes on. This is will be a FANTASTIC year!

Blessings,

Mrs. Brasher

AR Information

AR is usually turned on for first grade students after the first week of school. In first grade your student will get to read books and take AR tests on them. The goal is to practice fluency and comprehension on books that are appropriate for their reading level. Your child will receive an AR goal sheet to track their goal. We want to see children keep their accuracy (or percent correct) at around 85% which would be considered proficient. That's why is it very important for students not to RUSH to take AR tests simply to rack up points. Their accuracy as well as their points earned will all be considered at the end of the year award ceremonies. It's a good to take AR tests on books that are read at home (several times) as there is not a lot of down time during the day for students. I will be sending out more information about this as the year goes on.

Thank you,

Mrs. Brasher
